Why I went with Astro, Pages CMS and Cloudflare, and what I ruled out.
I wanted a site that matched my brand guide exactly, that I could edit in a browser, and that cost nothing to run.
What I picked
- Astro builds the pages. It’s a static site, so there’s no server to look after.
- Pages CMS is the editor. It saves straight to the GitHub repository.
- Cloudflare hosts it and rebuilds whenever something changes.
What I ruled out
Quartz is great for a notes wiki, and I already use it for another project. But its layout is built around a sidebar and a graph, and my guide calls for a plain hero, project cards and a dark footer. I’d have spent more time fighting it than writing.
Ghost and Framer both have better editors. Both cost money every month, and neither needs to exist for a site this size.
